ESAB and The Swedish National rail administration cooperated to develop welding procedures and consumables for the repair of damaged rail tracks. The article reviews rail steel grades and experiences with both MMA and FCAW for the repair of several types of rail components. Welding procedures, including preheating, are reviewed.
